Ingredients
For the churros:
-
1 cup water
-
2 ½ tbsp granulated sugar
-
½ tsp salt
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1 large egg
-
½ tsp vanilla extract
-
Vegetable oil for frying
-
½ cup granulated sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
For the chocolate sauce:
-
½ cup heavy cream
-
100g dark chocolate, chopped
-
1 tbsp sugar (optional)
-
Pinch of salt
How to Make Churros
1. Prepare the Dough
In a saucepan, bring water, sugar, salt, and butter to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in flour until a dough forms. Let cool slightly, then beat in egg and vanilla until smooth.
2. Heat the Oil
Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot (about 2 inches deep). Heat to 350°F (175°C).
3. Pipe and Fry
Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 4- to 6-inch strips directly into hot oil. Fry in batches until golden brown, turning as needed (about 2–3 minutes per side).
4. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar
Drain churros briefly on paper towels, then roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while still warm.
Make the Chocolate Sauce
Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until just simmering. Remove from heat, add chopped chocolate, and stir until smooth. Add sugar and a pinch of salt to taste.
Serving Tip
Serve churros warm with a bowl of rich chocolate sauce. For an extra indulgent twist, sprinkle sea salt over the sauce before dipping.
